A caffeine lollipop takes a different approach to your afternoon pick-me-up: a small, clearly labeled amount of caffeine you can carry in your pocket. Here's how a 40 mg VivaPop pop compares to the two most common options — coffee and energy drinks — milligram for milligram.
Quick answer: One VivaPop caffeinated lollipop is labeled at approximately 40 mg of caffeine — less than half of an 8 oz cup of coffee (about 95 mg) — paired with approximately 100 mg of L-theanine. It's a lighter, more portable serving than coffee or a typical energy drink (around 160 mg), with less sugar than most energy drinks.
Caffeine at a glance
| VivaPop pop | Coffee (8 oz) | Energy drink (16 oz) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Caffeine | ~40 mg | ~95 mg | ~160 mg |
| L-theanine | ~100 mg | None | Rare |
| Added sugar | ~13 g | None (black) | 27 g or more |
| Serving size | 1 pop | 8 oz | 16 oz |
| Contains liquid | No | Yes | Yes |
| Portability | Pocket-sized | Cup | Can |
Caffeine figures are typical averages; actual amounts vary by brand and preparation. An 8 oz cup of coffee averages about 95 mg per FDA guidance.
What 40 mg is
40 mg is a deliberately moderate amount — less than half a typical cup of coffee and well under a full energy drink. Because you dissolve a lollipop slowly rather than gulping a drink, the caffeine tends to arrive gradually rather than all at once. How caffeine affects you depends on your own tolerance, body size, and how much you've already had that day.
Why the L-theanine is there
L-theanine is an amino acid found naturally in tea. The caffeine-plus-L-theanine pairing is one of the more studied combinations in attention research. In one double-blind study, a combination of 97 mg of L-theanine and 40 mg of caffeine — close to the ratio in a VivaPop pop — improved accuracy on attention-switching tasks and increased subjective alertness compared with caffeine alone (Owen et al., Nutritional Neuroscience).
Two honest caveats: those results come from studies of the ingredients in controlled doses, not from testing the finished VivaPop product, which has not been evaluated in a clinical study; and individual responses vary. VivaPop builds L-theanine into every caffeinated pop so the two ingredients come together, rather than leaving you to stack separate supplements.
The sugar factor
Many energy drinks contain 27 g or more of added sugar per can. A VivaPop pop contains about 13 g of sugar — a real, candy-first treat, but with less sugar than a typical energy drink. If you're watching added sugar, that difference is worth knowing.
When a caffeine lollipop makes sense
A pocket-sized 40 mg serving fits the moments a mug or a can doesn't: the commute, the back half of a study session, a long drive, or the 3 p.m. stretch at your desk. It's portable, mess-free, and easy to portion — one pop is one clearly labeled serving.
How much caffeine is safe?
The FDA identifies 400 mg of caffeine per day as an amount not generally associated with negative effects for healthy adults. Everyone's sensitivity differs, so know your own tolerance and keep caffeine away from the hours before bed. We recommend no more than 2 VivaPop pops per day, and counting caffeine from coffee, tea, soda, energy products, and other sources toward your daily total. Caffeinated VivaPop is made for adults and is not intended for children or for anyone who is pregnant, nursing, or advised to limit caffeine.
Common questions
How many caffeine lollipops can I have in a day?
We recommend no more than 2 VivaPop pops per day. Count caffeine from all sources toward your daily total, and listen to your own tolerance.
Will a caffeine lollipop keep me up at night?
Caffeine can linger for several hours, so a late-afternoon or evening pop may affect sleep for some people. If you're caffeine-sensitive, stick to mornings and early afternoons.
Are they safe for teens or kids?
No. Caffeinated VivaPop is formulated for adults. For a pop the whole family can enjoy, look at our Vitamin C and sugar-free options instead.
Try a lighter caffeine option. Approximately 40 mg caffeine plus 100 mg L-theanine, in a pocket-sized cherry pop.
